The latest from your current
COC Board of Trustees

Scott Schauer is committed to transparency and putting COC students first—a priority the current board consistently fails to demonstrate.

Here's what you should know:

A few months ago, College of the Canyons was one of just 12 community college districts awarded over $61 million through the Affordable Housing Grant. However, on Wednesday, October 9th, the current Santa Clarita Community College Board of Trustees convened for their regular meeting and voted to reject this funding, opting to return the $61.8 million that would have supported building affordable student housing.

Despite this significant decision, the board has offered minimal explanation about why they declined the grant or what alternative steps they plan to take to address the ongoing student housing shortage at College of the Canyons.

In response, Scott Schauer reached out to the board on Friday, October 11th, raising essential questions about their rationale for turning down the funds and what they intend to do next. As of yet, the board has not replied to his letter, continuing a pattern of limited transparency and accountability.

Below is the letter that was sent.
